The attempt to unify the theories on natural forces by including gravitation
leads to a multiplification of assumed dimensions. The discovery
of polydimensionality can be compared to the rediscovery of the wheel
(as a modern wide tire donut). The supergravitation and string theories
resulting from this, e.g., the idea of a one-dimensional chord vibrating in
10-dimensional space, "incidentally" recall aspects of antiquity
(monochord, Cabbala, Sephirot).
("The heavens are full of chords" is a classical "state-oriented"
utterance whereas "the heavens are full of string synthesizers"
seems to be more "reality-oriented".)
