According to Einstein, the world of experience can only be explained by a general,
fundamental thought process, which we could define as cosmological. He points
out that a major feature of productive thought is a psychological-associative combination
game. This definition clearly corresponds to the magical tradition of the use of a
cosmological co-ordinate system for the world, forming the basis for its mythological
elaboration. This co-ordinate system of polarized relationships is represented symbolically
by the "Tree of Life and Knowledge", the fruits of which are attained by associative
reflection and psychonautic expedition.
The magical and cosmological ritual appears as a formulation of cognitive
patterns into the service of a numinous vision, and so meets the requirements for orientation
in time and space by overcoming the ambivalence involved.
